Superb Louis Régence-style desk-top, in palissandre wood veneer on oak frame, richly decorated with gilded bronze trim. Attributed to Paul Sormani, one of the greatest Parisian cabinetmakers of the 19th century, known for the exceptional quality of his marquetry and bronzes. The desk rests on four arched feet, each decorated with gilded bronze drops and finished with clogs. The belt has three drawers separated by spectacular leafy godrons. Each drawer is decorated with elegant quarter-circle bottoms veneered with palissandre wood, highlighting the remarkable grain of the veneer. The central drawer is decorated with a beautiful mascaron surrounded by acanth leaves. The side drawers are equipped with superb leafy handles richly chiseled, accompanied by golden bronze lock entrances in the shape of a crest, decorated with fine garlands of bays of laurel and other acanth motifs. The back of the desk is dressed in three false drawers, while the sides are embellished with gilded bronze reserves representing remarkable Bacchanale masks. All the bronzes are in original gilding The tray is sheathed with its original leather showing normal wear of time. Piece of very good quality, typical of Parisian high-end productions of the 19th century.
