Large bronze group with brown patina after Claude Michel, known as Clodion (1738-1814), "The Triumph of Bacchus." Early 19th century. Height 64cm (height with base excluding the branch). Patinated bronze sculpture depicting the triumph of Bacchus. This group of sculptural figures includes the Roman god of the vine and wine, Bacchus, accompanied by a half-naked classical maiden and a magnificent pair of cherubs, one dancing while holding a tambourine, the other seated on Bacchus's shoulders during a bacchanal. The joyous procession rests on a veined marble base with a twisted bronze braid. Signed on the base "CLODION."
