French School 1821: "Portrait of a Man with an Embroidered Waistcoat", oil on canvas 64 X 55 cm, mounted on a gilded block in a beautiful, slightly damaged Empire frame 79 X 66 cm.
Traces of signature at the bottom left with a date 1821.
A masterful restoration has revealed all the richness of the waistcoat's embroidery which highlights the white tie held by a gold pin decorated with two red and blue enameled flowers.
The man is young, with curly hair and exudes a certain sensuality.
