Sacred Bleeding Heart In Flames, Polychrome Wood, 36 Cm, French 18th Century
Beautiful antique French polychrome wooden church / chapel ornament, depicting a flaming and bleeding Sacred Heart, in perfect size. Carved entirely from wood, it has deep relief and open structures. Dating from the 18th century, it still shows traces of green, red and gold polychromy on the flames. In good condition for its age, it has a beautiful patina and has not been restored. It has some {slight} damage due to age, but I believe this is not disturbimng. Please see the photos.
The dedication to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is one of the best known Roman Catholic devotions, where the physical heart of Jesus Christ is considered to be the representation of his divine love for humanity.
