"An Artist's Refuge, Oil On Canvas Circa 1860"
An illustrated book lying open on a lectern on a table, a guitar hanging on the wall next to old paintings, fabrics on a screen, carpets, a cupboard open on shelves full of books, a green plant, a family portrait in the background, and in the foreground a very beautiful Louis XVI chair waiting for its owner, this interior exudes an informal and bohemian atmosphere. The painting is full of small details, finely observed, like the carpet that lies carelessly. The signature, A. Staes is completely unknown to us, which does not fit with the quality of the work. It is not a simple amateur who can render with this finesse the varnish of the guitar, or the right observation of the base of this not very common seat. The painting is in excellent original condition, never cleaned. It could perhaps gain in light by having it done, but the soft atmosphere that it exudes is truly pleasant. Dimensions: 60 cm x 46 cm
