"Pair Of Silvered Wooden Frames From Emilia, First Half Of The 18th Century"
Elegant pair of carved and silvered wooden frames, made in the Emilia region during the first half of the 18th century. The simple profile, with a smooth inner edge and rounded inner molding, is fully covered in silver leaf, with signs of oxidation and a beautiful aged patina. They were likely originally finished with a mecca (gilt-silver) effect. The frames underwent a restoration some years ago, but would benefit from further conservation. The wood used, most likely limewood, is consistent with 18th-century craftsmanship.
Both frames retain their original hanging hooks. On the back, traces of former fixings suggest the original presence of applied carved elements on all sides—perhaps frontons or decorative additions that are now lost.
The frames are nearly identical in size, with only minimal differences.
