Pair Of Gilt Bronze Andirons. Early 18th Century, Regency Period.

The greyhounds are depicted lying down. They are cast in lost-wax bronze and partially mercury-gilded. Hand-cut nuts. Beautiful patina and original gilding. The Greyhound is a common motif in aristocratic iconography, associated with hunting, luxury and fidelity. Regency period, early 18th century, circa 1720. Good condition, some wear and tear. No restoration. These are subjects of elegant sobriety that were very popular and have been reproduced extensively from the end of the 19th century to the present day. 172x167mm.
