"Silk Embroidery. Qing Dynasty. China, 19th Century."
The embroidery shows us a procession, certainly a wedding. The sumptuous clothes, the profusion of jewels, the standards and the parasols should announce an imperial marriage. The quality of the weaving is superb, the stitches are tiny and of an astonishing regularity. It is an excellent and unusual embroidery, created in one of the best weaving workshops in southern China. The vivid colors allow us to date the work to the second half of the 19th century during the Cixi period. Good condition, perfectly preserved colors. Some discolored spots at the beginning of the procession, as can be seen in the photos. As the headband is in two parts, one could think that it was shortened but the decoration is correctly continued, indeed the standard-bearing figure on the right part follows the flag on the left part. The silk was nastily stapled to a wooden panel and put under glass. 190cm x 28.5cm
