Elegant baluster-shaped pewter PITCHER with a flared foot, quarter-round goblet and thumb with two buds.
1° - Countermark CG, inside the handle, of Claude 1st GONELLE received master in 1737.
2° - Countermark on the inside bottom with the city's coat of arms: single-headed eagle with columns.
Height: 26 cm.
BESANÇON, Mid-18th century


Good condition - A small impection of the original solder in the middle part of the belly is located by an arrow on one of the pictures.
These pitchers were the wine measures of the Ancien Régime. Those used in public places, inns, drinking establishments, etc., had to be checked periodically by the controller-gauger who affixed a stamp indicating that the pitcher offered "good measure" to the consumer.
