Large cylindrical mug in beige lead-glazed stoneware with a large incised blue decoration of a central rosette, foliate scrolls, and two large birds on branches. The handle and the gadrooned lid with a ball thumb rest are made of pewter.
Engraved and dated ownership mark: AJCO /1794, overwriting a previous owner's mark from 1778.
Height: 26.3 cm.
Westerwald, circa 1780.

In good used condition. A large chip on the rim and very slight, non-transverse cracks are noted and visible in the photographs. Bibliography: "Historische Trinkgefässe" Important sales catalog from Johannes Vogt Auktionen, May 2009.
