Albrecht Dürer, Hercules conquering Cacus (or Hercules killing the Molionides), woodcut, 16th century
Late printing on laid paper (without watermark) of the woodcut from 1496, with the black stain on Hercules's nose scraped away, numerous borderline breaks, and wormhole marks. Meder type 3-a (a lack on the young woman's eye, vertical crack along the wood on the left, horizon line still present between the small tree and the trunk on the right), circa 1580.
The margins have been trimmed and three corners are worn. A horizontal center crease. Various writing and some repairs on the back (see photos). See the photo taken next to a white sheet of paper and a newspaper to appreciate the tint of the paper.
