The artist's auction record is USD to 51,931 USD. Shayer's paintings are highly collectible in the current market.
A typical pastoral scene for this artist who regularly painted studies of 18th and 19th century rural English life invariably featuring interesting characters and animals .
Shayer was a competent landscape artist, but he is best known as a figure painter. His work is reminiscent in some respects to the paintings of George Morland, another very popular figure painter. Shayer's work though has a depth and brightness not seen in the work of his contemporaries, mainly due to his skilful application of glaze. He exhibited at the Royal Academy
Condition report: In very fine professionally restored condition. Relined very recently. The original gilt frame is also in fine attractive condition. See notes below regarding frames.
This is an exceptionally fine example of the artist's work.
