Overall dimensions including the frame 100 are 80 cm x 8 cm and the painting itself measuring 80 cm x 60.2 cm

A beautifully painted 17th oil on canvas painting which has been attributed to Giulio Cesare Procaccini.

Giulio Cesare was an Italian painter and sculptor of the early Baroque era in Milan.

Procaccini's earliest training was as a sculptor, and as a young artist he participated in the decoration of the Duomo in Milan.

Later in between 1597 and 1602 he was engaged on the sculptural decoration of the Milanese church of Santa Maria presso San Celso, executing two marble reliefs of the Visitation and the Birth of the Virgin for the facade. Other sculptural projects included work for the Duomo in Cremona in 1597.

He eventually took to painting after 1600 and after establishing a reputation for painting commissioned works for the regional aristocracy Procaccini established as one of the leading Mannerist artists working in Lombardy in the first quarter of the 17th century.

The painting is in excellent restored condition having undergone restoration and lining in recent years with some retouching works apparent when comparing it to the photographs of the painting as catalogued in 1990. Please refer to the auction catalogue photo's.

The tonality is beautiful with deep colours. The later gilt frame suits the painting and s offered as a gift as we cannot insure antique frames for shipping.

Condition report : In restored and lined condition with a slight glossy consistency to the lacquer. The canvas is in good tension.

The painting is executed in oil on a canvas support which has been lined. The texture along the upper edge is a little uneven The paint layer has a network of craquelure , some of which are slightly raised but the paint surface is stable.

Note: As a gallery we are always willing to consider sensible offers from prospective buyers. Please feel most welcome to send an enquiry with any proposal or offer and we will give it consideration and respond to buyers within 24 hours.

Please note.

The frame that is included in the pictures above has been added to the artwork by a third party/the seller, as such it is not an integral part of the object. The fame is therefore a gift and is therefore being provided to you at no additional cost so that when your artwork arrives at your house you can display it on your wall. We do not send fixings unless they are already fitted to the frames. Any damage to the frame during transit does not give the buyer a basis for a claim or validate a request for the cancellation of a sale.

We would also point out that whilst we insure all paintings before shipping, we have no control over shipping once we have sent the painting and in most cases the frames are not covered in the insurance we take out for shipping which will only cover the painting.

The buyer will be responsible for paying any import duties and any associated taxes in the country of destination.

All of the art that we sell is insured for shipping (subject to the above).

All work will be professionally packed for shipping.

We have been getting most paintings shipped to most parts of the EU within 7 working days, but we cannot guarantee time scales once it has left our storage facility as these are totally out of our control and depend on various factors including the buyers speed in responding to custom requests etc.

Note: Studio/Gallery photos of paintings on an easel on the published material are intended only to accurately represent the size of the painting within that room environment.

Also, please refer to the shipping costs and note the auctioneer's disclaimer regarding customs charges. We cannot calculate these as they are levied in the country of destination and the amount payable is determined by customs at the destination and not by ourselves or the auctioneers. We have experienced some customs charges (import taxes) that are higher than expected so we would advise bidders to attempt to establish the customs fees that you will before bidding. We must emphasise that it is NOT the UK customs that will be charging you but the customs authorities of the destination of the item.
