JAPAN - Edo period (1603 - 1868). Complete samurai armor. KABUTO in black lacquered wrought iron in the shape of a court headdress (eboshi), decorated with a Mon in the form of a disc. SHIKORO (neck cover) with four degrees in gold and red lacquered iron and blue and orange silk braiding, the last degree decorated with Naito clan mons alternating with diamonds. MABI SA SHI (the visor) in wrought iron. FUKIGAESHI (the wings) in black lacquered iron decorated with the Naito clan mon. MAETATE in lacquered and gilded wood depicting an oni head with large horns and large ears (one ear restored). MEMPO (samurai half-mask) in brown lacquered wrought iron, pronounced chin, movable nose, pierced nostrils, visible teeth, white horsehair mustache, sweat hole under the chin. YODARE-KAKE (gorget) with four degrees in brown and red lacquered wrought iron, green silk braid. DO (breastplate) in two parts in lacquered iron. SODE (pauldrons) with six degrees in black lacquered metal and light blue silk braid. KOTE (arm guards) in chainmail (oxidation), lacquered iron plates and plum silk. KUSAZURI (skirt) and HAIDATE (cuissards) with five rows in lacquered metal and blue silk braid. SUNEATE (greaves) in lacquered iron plates, chain, fabric and leather. Additional photos and details on request. Sold with a wooden GUSOKU BITSU (carrying case) with metal reinforcements decorated with the Asakura clan mon and with its presentation stand. Dimensions of the armor in a seated position: 144 x 65 x 55 cm. Notes: In Japan, samurai are commemorated every year, many people and temples often keep such armor for generations.
