JAPAN - Meiji period (1868-1912). Katanakake in glossy black lacquered wood decorated with gold hira-makie, the base in the shape of a heart with a lake landscape decoration. It rests on three small feet. Very good general condition, slight wear from use under the base. It should be noted that in samurai culture the shape of a heart can refer to that of the iris of the boar, symbol of strength and courage. Dimensions: 63.5 x 29 x 28 cm.
