Italy Venice
A Baroque wall hanging in cream silk satin appliquéd and embroidered in the Grotesque style with floral cuts and draped architectural elements of extreme refinement. Piece collected in Venice and dating from the early 18th century. Formerly bed slopes, Bonne Grâce, gathered and sewn in their middle. Polychrome silk floche embroidery in needle painting with color tones treated in gradient. Note several period mendings of the silk and composite lining of cream silk and linen. Fresh and preserved colors despite a structural fragility of the silk. Good general condition considering its age.
Dimensions: 245 cm high by 103 cm wide.
