Polychrome Ceramic Holy Water Font, Neapolitan Manufacture, 18th Century
Magnificent wall-mounted holy water font in glazed and hand-painted ceramic, dating from the 18th century, and attributed to a refined Neapolitan workshop.
Decorated with vibrant polychrome glazes—cobalt blue, ochre, and ivory—it features a striking depiction of Christ on the Cross, with the inscription INRI, framed by twisted columns and a rich baroque-style relief decoration of floral and symbolic motifs.
Originally intended to hold holy water at the entrance of a home or private chapel, this rare piece is a fine example of Southern Italian religious craftsmanship and domestic devotion from the 18th century.
