Object description :

"Mater Dolorosa – Oil On Canvas, Italian School 17th–18th Century"

Moving devotional painting in oil on canvas, depicting the Mater Dolorosa (Our Lady of Sorrows) with hands clasped and a sword piercing her chest, symbol of the seventh sorrow in Christian iconography.

Attributed to the Italian school, late 17th to early 18th century, likely from the Emilian or Neapolitan tradition, with stylistic affinities to Baroque painters such as Guido Reni or Solimena.

Warm tones, dramatic chiaroscuro, and a cloudy background create a powerful spiritual atmosphere.
The painting is in good overall condition, with minor signs of age and traces of old restorations consistent with its period. The frame is original to the work. Ideal for collections of sacred art, furnishing classic interiors, private chapels, or devotional settings.
