"Religious Oil On Canvas, Late 17th Century, Early 18th Century Baroque, Representing Saint Andrew On His Cross"
Oil on canvas from the late 17th and early 18th centuries depicting Saint Andrew on his cross. This painting, like most religious paintings, was intended to encourage the spiritual elevation of the faithful by showing the faith of this Saint, ready to die for his religion. The cross shape, in x, on which Saint Andrew was crucified took the name of this Saint and is called: cross of Saint Andrew. This painting is in good condition but a light cleaning would allow the original colors to be restored to a more vivid state, the varnish having yellowed over time. At the bottom of the painting, we notice a sentence in Latin indicating that Saint Andrew was the brother of Simon. Format with the frame: 73 cm x 57 cm. Format on view: 61 cm x 45 cm.
