Elegant French travel hatbox from the mid-19th century, made of steam-bent wood (bentwood) and hand-nailed along the vertical joint. Its oval shape, warm wood patina, and artisanal construction speak to the authenticity of a utilitarian object of its time.
The lid is covered in original black leather, while the leather strap, aged and coeval, is still attached and serves as the closure. On the underside, there’s a handwritten inscription: “chambre n°6”, likely indicating use in a hotel or noble house as a personal guest container.
A rare, decorative and functional piece—perfect for vintage interiors, set design, or collecting.
