Louis XV Period Commode in Satinwood, Rosewood, and Kingwood Stamped by Bon Durand

The stamp of Bon Durand, also known as Bondurand or Durand the Younger, is a rare testament to his craft. We are pleased to present this elegant commode, crafted with veneers of precious woods such as satinwood, rosewood, and kingwood. These materials are arranged in geometric patterns, framed with inlays, and mounted on an oak frame. The facade of the commode is slightly curved and adorned with chiseled and gilded bronzes. It opens with four drawers and rests on rounded supports, ending with chiseled and gilded bronze feet. The marble top with a molded edge completes this piece.

This Louis XV period commode, circa 1765, is stamped on the front upper supports with the B Durand stamp, as well as the Jurande JME mark. It is both interesting and decorative.

Biography:

Bon Durand, also known as Bondurand or Durand the Younger, was a renowned cabinetmaker of the 18th century. He established his workshop on rue de Charenton in Paris, where he practiced his craft from obtaining his mastership in 1761 until the French Revolution. During this period, he collaborated with eminent furniture merchants such as Pierre Migeon and Denis Genty, as well as renowned upholsterers like Presle and Bonnemain.

Durand is particularly famous for his furniture in the Louis XV, Transition, and Louis XVI styles. His creations, often in mahogany, are distinguished by the use of precious veneers such as satinwood, rosewood, or kingwood. His pieces are remarkably adorned with geometric patterns and floral marquetry, showcasing his skill and artistic sense.
