Biography:
Philips Wouwerman (1619–1668) was a Dutch painter and etcher, baptized in Haarlem on May 24, 1619, and died in the same city on May 19, 1668. One of the most prolific and versatile artists of the Dutch Golden Age, Wouwerman significantly influenced 17th-century Dutch painting. His works were highly sought after during his lifetime and even more so in the following century, particularly in the courts of Louis XVI and Charles IV.
Today, his paintings are featured in prestigious European collections, including the National Museum in Warsaw, the Louvre, the National Gallery in London, the Musée Fabre in Montpellier, the Wallace Collection, the Fondation Bemberg in Toulouse, and the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Nantes.
