The painting is signed and dated 1898 in the lower right corner. It is in very good condition. There may be some old repainting in the sky. The work is presented in a late 19th-century frame with gilded highlights on the moldings.
This work was created by Henri Bellet, a Grenoble painter specializing in landscape painting. He trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, with Jules Lefebvre and Gustave Boulanger. He regularly exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français, winning a silver medal in 1883 and a gold medal in 1889.
Bellet's style is realistic, with a touch of romanticism. He uses soft, warm colors to create a peaceful, idyllic atmosphere.
