"Samson Factory, Porcelain Biscuit Vase-cassolette Based On A Model By Clodion "
Magnificent vase - cassolette in biscuit porcelain on a pedestal resting on a square bronze base. The belly of our vase is decorated with a frieze with a rotating decoration, featuring putti. The two side handles are decorated with fantastic animals and are connected by two laurel garlands. The neck is circled with brass, it supports a pretty lid finely chiseled with plant motifs and is topped with a bronze fretel. The vase that we present to you is inspired by a model by the famous sculptor Claude Michel Clodion (1738-1814). The original model created in 1770 is in marble, it measures 77 cm and is kept at the Wallace Gallery Of London. This same model was then created in terracotta in 1773 and is currently kept at the Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg. Our vase bears under its base the hollow mark of the famous Samson factory. (see last photo). This factory, specialized in the reproduction of porcelain collector's pieces and various items of exceptional quality, earned it worldwide renown and, moreover, it was called "the genius of imitation". Depending on the different production models, it adopted various brands; the brand present here under our vase is the one used for the reproduction of Sèvres porcelain models.
