"Bicorne Hat – 1st Cavalry Regiment Or 1st Cuirassiers "
Revolutionary period - First Empire Rare black felt bicorne hat, worn in battle, in the emblematic style of Napoleon. This type of headdress was in vogue during the Revolution and at the beginning of the Empire, before the adoption of the column-style wear. It is a non-regulation model, typical of the stylistic transition period of the heavy cavalry. The hat is decorated with a wide 23 mm silver wire braid. The woven cockade, with a diameter of 7 cm, corresponds to the model in use between the Revolution and 1805. The bone-mounted button is in silver metal, stamped with the number "I", indicating a possible membership of the 1st Cavalry Regiment or the 1st Cuirassiers. Dimensions: Front height: 16.5 cm Front height from base of horns: 24 cm Length from horn to horn: 41.5 cm Width of horns: 8 cm Interior: The headdress consists of a 6 cm high waxed leather band, topped with a cream silk headdress. Interior depth: 12.5 cm. Although this bicorne has possibly been reassembled, it remains a rare and sought-after object, a witness to a pivotal period in French military history.
