Louis XV style coffee table signed Grimard à Paris – Floral marquetry, Aleppo breccia marble and gilded bronzes – Napoleon III period Elegant Louis XV style coffee table, in precious wood marquetry and richly decorated with gilded bronzes, resting on four curved legs with foliate falls and finely chiseled sabots. It is signed “Grimard à Paris” on the edge of the drawer, a rare and highly sought-after signature on the 19th century decorative arts market. The Aleppo breccia marble top, in warm shades of wine red and ochre, is encircled by an openwork gilded bronze gallery. The apron is inlaid with a delicate floral decoration inlaid on a herringbone frieze background, while the lower shelf, curved like the top, features a three-dimensional checkerboard marquetry. The quality of manufacture, the harmony of the forms and the finesse of the ornamental details place this piece among the best Parisian productions of the Napoleon III period. Furniture signed Grimard, a cabinetmaker active in Paris in the 1880s, has become rare and prized by collectors for its elegance, its finish and its inspiration faithful to the styles of the 18th century.
