Sarreguemines, Biedermeier Tobacco Jar

Created around 1908-1909, this rare majolica object is presented as "Statuette Mme Biedermeier tobacco pot", to use the description of this number 3810 in the list of shape numbers of artistic, fantasy and decorative objects at the Sarreguemines earthenware factory.
This factory sometimes created objects whose function was not limited to their aesthetic or utilitarian aspects, but could also convey a view of society or certain events, sometimes in a humorous way.
This is the case with this piece, a caricature of a bourgeois society, which is characterized by a certain way of life around 1914 to 1948 in Germany and Austria.
Mme Biedermeier has a partner, just as rare, Monsieur Biedermeier, also a tobacco pot.

Note a crack at the back of the body of the container.
