19th Century Georgian Silver And Colored Cabochon Insect Brooch
This beautiful brooch, rare in its size, represents a cockchafer. It is adorned in a closed setting with crystal cabochons on paillon, cut to shape, mounted in silver gilt. The pointed head is adorned with a garnet-colored crystal.
The thorax is set with an amethyst-colored crystal.
The elytra are represented by a large carved citrine-colored cabochon.
Perfectly functional brooch system, C-shaped clasp, the hinge attachment is an old replacement.
Unhallmarked silver, tested with a touchstone.
Some wear on the gilding.
