Beautiful Lyoncoin Balance By Mathieu Clot, 1674
Artist: Mathieu Clot
Beautiful, simple, late 17th century, walnut money changer's box, opening with lid, wire hinges, brass hooks. When open, it shows inside of lid sumptuously ink calligraphed : Mathieu Clot, Rue Tupin in Lyon, 1674, made in La Graves, Dauphiné… Thank for this superb information, still intact and legible.
Inside is classic, hollowed out of a cell for the small trebuchet with a cut-out wrought iron flail, with its 2-color braided horsehair cords, and its two turned brass trays hallmarked by Master balancer: M*Clot.
Of the 8 original monetary weights, 6 remain, all that remains is to find to complete: the 4 pistoles and the small real. Some strips… This is a beautiful object!
18cm x 7cm x 2.5cm, weight: 250g
Good general condition, untouched.
