"Portrait Of Nijinsky, Ballet The Blue God "
Spectacular red chalk portrait of the famous Ballet Russes dancer Nijinsky in the costume he wore in the title role "The Blue God". We no longer need to introduce this legendary dancer, iconoclastic choreographer, who like a shooting star, revolutionized the approach to his profession. The Blue God was created in 1912 by the Ballet Russes, to music by Reynaldo Hann, a libretto by Jean Cocteau, and Federico de Madrazo y Ochoa, with sets and costumes by Léon Bakst, under the direction of Serge de Diaghilev, with choreography by Michel Fokine. The show was a success and praised by critics. This ballet marked the imagination of artists. It is not surprising that a few decades later, we remember him. Marcelle Kuntz (1910-1992) here energetically takes up the face and exotic headdress of the God incarnated by Nijinsky. This artist, sculptor and engraver, notably illustrated works in the 1950s. Presented in a white art deco frame, the drawing bears on the back a cataloged auction label from the 1960s from a Parisian auctioneer. The frame is stained at the bottom (patina to be redone), otherwise good general condition.
