"Pierre Edmond Hédouin "beautiful In Couture""
Pierre-Edmond-Alexandre Hédouin. Pencil drawing on paper "belle en couture" dedicated, signed, located and dated to my good friend Max Legrand. Edm Hédouin. Aix. Sept. 82. French school. 21 X 15 cm at sight (48 X 40 overall). Bears on the back a label specifying the personality of the model as well as the date of execution. Pierre-Edmond-Alexandre Hédouin (1820-1889) was a student of Paul Delaroche (1797-1856) at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He debuted at the Salon in 1842 and participated until 1882. He appreciated orientalist and peasant subjects. His work as an engraver is remarkable. Indeed, passionate from a very young age about the Old Masters, he reproduced them with great accuracy and a just sensitivity. The museums of Aix, Arras, Bayonne, Calais, Epinal, Lille, Narbonne, Toulouse, Troyes, Valenciennes, Versailles, as well as the Louvre Museum (Paris) possess his works. Quite a program. The quality of this drawing is a good example of Hédouin's great talent. Wooden frame and gilded stucco from the period. Accidents to the frame. Some mold stains on the paper, notably above the head of The Young Seamstress and at her feet as well as above the plant. 780 euros.
