Neo-impressionist School. Edward S. Lowe, "the Hamlet By The Canal"
Artist: Edward. S. Lowe
Neo-Impressionist School. Oil on canvas, "The Hamlet by the Canal," signed lower left, Lowe. English School. 46.5 x 68 cm. Edward S. Lowe (1893-1928) exhibited at the Royal Academy (London, United Kingdom) and lived in Essex (England) and Dublin (Ireland). Among other countries, the artist visited France and the Netherlands, bringing back from his travels portraits of Breton peasants, landscapes of Provence (Saint-Tropez), and monuments of Holland. Related to our painting, we can cite his work "A Canal in Flanders." Our landscape most likely depicts a canal in northern France, such as the Deûle or Aa canals, or perhaps in Belgium, such as the Bruges or Damme canals. The resemblance to the Damme canal, with its endless rows of poplars reflected in the water, is certainly the most probable. A skilled painter who, with his vibrant palette and bold, agile brushstrokes, captures the changing light and the reflections it evokes as time passes. Unframed. Good condition. 950 euros.
