Bronze Lioness By Roger Godchaux – Lost Wax – Cast By Susse Frères

This is an icon of animal bronzes, the lioness turning by Roger Godchaux. I present to you this very beautiful bronze proof with a dark patina. Lost wax edition cast, signed on the terrace by Roger Godchaux, intaglio marked Susse Frères éditeurs in Paris with the stamp and noted cire perdue. The lioness walks and turns her head to the left. We are immediately caught by her gaze and her gait so well represented by the artist. 13.5x25.5cm Very good condition and superb original patina. Roger Godchaux was a student of Jules Adler and then of Jean-Léon Gérôme. In 1925, the Jury of the Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts awarded him the silver medal. When he died in 1958 at the age of 80, he had spent more than fifty years of his life depicting animals in all the attitudes observed in everyday life.
