"Charles II Of Orleans - Autograph Letter Signed, Addressed To Monseigneur d'Albin - 1540"
CHARLES II OF ORLEANS - Autograph letter signed, addressed to Monseigneur d'Albin. Paris, June 12, 1540. 1 p. in-4 (23x34cm), 15 lines in brown ink on paper, handwriting of a secretary, autograph signature "Charles of Orléans". Important letter from the son of King Francis I, then in full diplomatic and military activity, addressed to Monseigneur d'Albin concerning a trip to Auvergne and matters relating to the service of the king. Charles of Orléans expresses his satisfaction with the zeal and loyalty of his correspondent, encourages him to continue his efforts "for the service of the King and the peace of the country", and announces his trip to Montferrand before the end of the month in order to personally oversee the affairs of the kingdom. A letter of great historical interest, written in the supple and direct style of the Renaissance royal chancellery, bearing the superb autograph signature of Charles d'Orléans, brother of the future Henry II and favorite son of Francis I. Good condition, paper very slightly yellowed, some old mailing folds. Full text: Monsieur d'Albin, I know that you have a desire to do me a favor and the affection you have for the good of the King's service, Monseigneur and brother, are so great that you did well to do what you told me to, and I ask you to continue in the same way. I have been told of your affairs, and I am very pleased with the opportunity you have found to do such good and suitable things for the King's service, and yours. I have spoken to Monsieur de [Vendosme?], who told me that he will advise you soon and see to it that you are happy. I hope, God willing, to go to Auvergne before the end of the month and find myself in Montferrand where I will see what there is to order concerning the service of the King and the peace of the country. Praying God, Monsieur d'Albin, that he keeps you in his holy guard. Written in Paris this 12th day of June one thousand five hundred and forty. Yours very affectionate to please you, Charles d'Orléans
