Stone Sculpture Of The Virgin And Child - Early Period
Sculpture depicting the Virgin and Child, carved in high relief on a limestone shaft. A striking piece that likely originated from a rood screen. The faces have been cropped, and the Virgin's face has even been decapitated. This was probably done during the French Revolution. The lower part of the sculpture has an overhang at the Virgin's feet, allowing the shaft to stand perfectly upright on the edge of a support. 54cm high, 20cm in diameter. Very heavy item.
