Large Giltwood Pier Mirror And Console, Louis XV Style, 19th Century

A spectacular Louis XV style ensemble comprising a large pier mirror and its matching console, in carved wood gilded with gold leaf, made in the 19th century. Standing 3.5 metres high, it forms a complete salon decor.
Below a moulded cornice, the pier mirror is divided into several plates by slender parcloses carved with rocailles, scrolls, foliage and garlands of roses. The upper part holds a painting of two cherubs around a basin overflowing with roses, within a rich shaped frame crowned by a pierced crest; a foliate and floral clasp separates it from the large arched central mirror plate.
The wall console, set against a mirrored back, has a shaped Siena yellow marble top. Its pierced frieze unfolds a profuse rocaille decoration of acanthus leaves, flowers and bunches of grapes. It stands on two scrolled cabriole legs joined by a carved stretcher centred by a rocaille motif.
