"Barrel Knife Called "morutier" - John Engström Eskilstuna - Sweden - 19th Century"
Barrel model knife by "JOHN ENGSTRÖM ESKILSTUNA", SWEDEN, 19th century. Knife also called "Cod Fisherman's" knife. During their short free time while waiting for the cod shoals on board the trawlers, Swedish fishermen used to carve pieces of birch. It was JAKOB WALFRIED ENGSTRÖM who decided in 1874 to manufacture this knife from A to Z. In its hollow barrel-shaped handle slides a folding blade taken in a flat brass band in the shape of a "U". All you have to do is press on the prominent blade located on the base of the knife. This mechanism is called "drawer opening", the blade is then pivoted and the open assembly is then rehoused in the handle.
