Amazing Double-sided Reliquary Painting – 19th Century
Work of the Holy Land A cross in glory with mother-of-pearl marquetry covering the wood, sits in the center of a gilded composition with essentially floral motifs. There are as many relics as there are stations of the Passion, of Saint Clare, Saint Therese, Saint Felicity - Martyr, Saint Thecla - Virgin and Martyr, Saint Agnes, Saint Anne, Saint Theodore, Saint Francis of Assisi, Saint Vincent de Paul, Saint Peter the Apostle, Saint Theodore, Saint Francis Xavier, Our Lady of Loreto
On the back, and this is the great specificity of our reliquary, the second face of our cross is shown, dressed in the 14 stations containing small stones. Two of its stations, small reliquary niche covers, are missing.
