PITCHER with pewter shoulder, flared base, straight heel cup and acorn thumb.
Control mark: Crowned C / (CA)VDEBEC / (1691 or 1701).
Very worn mark of Pierre DELAMARE received master at the beginning of the 18th century.
Gauge mark with lily
Height: 19.5 cm.
CAUDEBEC-EN-CAUX, First half of the 18th century

Of rare provenance, in very good condition.
Let us recall in passing that these pitchers were the wine measures of the Ancien Régime. The capacity of those used in inns, drinking establishments, etc., had to be checked periodically by the royal or ecclesiastical authorities to ensure "good measure" for the consumer, but in fact, this regulation was rarely applied and pitchers bearing gauging marks are very rare.
