Oil On Canvas, Bacchante With Cymbals Attributed To Jean-simon Berthélémy (1743-1811)

Artist: Attribué à Jean-simon Berthélémy (1743-1811)
Beautiful neoclassical oil on canvas dating from the second half of the 18th century.
A delightful scene inspired by antiquity, it is a scene representing a bacchante or a maenad playing cymbals in a bucolic landscape.
The young undressed woman is beautiful with a pleasant face and she is lying on an animal skin while waving her arms and one leg reaching towards the sky.
She is covered with a light veil of chastity or modesty and wears beautiful jewelry including on her ankle. Everything around her recalls and symbolizes the god Bacchus and his bacchanals: the jug of wine overturned on the ground on the left, the tambourine, near her legs, as well as the Athenian with the sacred fire glowing and of course the bust of Pan or satyr appearing on the rocks

This canvas is in very good condition and has been cleaned.

Nice frame with keys and original canvas.
the frame is from the restoration period with a beautiful decoration of palmettes in wood and gilded stucco.
