Large Art Nouveau Earthenware Letter Tray - Naturalist Décor - Attributed To Gallé
Important polychrome glazed earthenware pocket or mail holder, Art Nouveau period (circa 1890-1900).
This model features a rich naturalistic decoration in high relief, depicting an aquatic world animated by shells, seaweed and stylized organic elements. The flowing form and sculptural appearance bear full witness to the Art Nouveau aesthetic, developed in particular in Nancy around Émile Gallé.
The piece bears a handwritten signature "E. Gallé Nancy" on the reverse.
This type of production is generally likened to the manufactures of the Faïencerie de Saint-Clément, with whom Gallé collaborated in his early career.
