19th-century School, After Titian Conjugal Allegory Hst Dimensions: 117 X 103 Cm
Expertise : Pierre Grignon-Dumoulin.
Important and elegant composition inspired by a famous Italian Renaissance model attributed to Titian, representing a conjugal allegory bringing together several figures in a setting imbued with gentleness and refinement.
At the center of the composition, a richly dressed young woman holds a mirror, the traditional symbol of fidelity, truth and matrimonial union. Beside her appear a man in armor and a second female figure accompanied by a winged child, reinforcing the symbolic and allegorical significance of the whole. The delicate complexions, supple drapery and chromatic richness testify to the enduring admiration for 16th-century Venetian painting.
This work is a high-quality revival of the famous painting housed in the Musée du Louvre as INV 754; MR 506. The original model, long associated with Titian and his entourage, was copied and interpreted extensively from the 18th and especially the 19th century onwards, a period marked by a renewed interest in the great Italian masters.
This work is a high quality revival of the original.
The composition retains all the majesty and poetry of Venetian invention: subtle dialogue of glances, monumental balance of figures and psychological depth characterize this scene imbued with humanism.
