Orientalism – Return To Camp At Dusk – Oil On Panel – Louis George Legrand 1801-1883
Artist: George Louis
Oil on cardboard showing a scene of returning to the camp in the desert. Two nomads on their dromedaries occupy the center of the painting. They are probably Tuaregs, if we are to believe their saddles and the appearance of the tents of the camp.
The two riders and their mounts look at the painter - and the spectators. Behind them, slightly below, stand several dark tents. Smoke escapes from a fireplace. In the distance, we can see a few trees that stand out against the reddening sky of the end of the day.
The whole is very finely executed and gives off a serene atmosphere.
The work is by Louis George 1801-1883, signed bottom right. It is in good condition, without any missing paint. Fine cracks appear in the light areas. It is offered in a modern gilded wooden frame, in very good condition.
Object visible at the gallery (07240).
