"European Rug Design of the Safavid Empire"
This is an antique European Tetex rug woven in France in the Lys point during the first quarter of the 20th century, circa 1920s.

This rug features a traditional Persian pattern that is inspired by the early classical rugs of the Safavid royal family. Its design consists of large palmettes with prominent cloud band motifs, all connected to a discreet vine with blooming flowers on a saffron yellow background.
The border continues the theme of large palmettes connected by a thin vine with smaller flowers on a background that creates color contrasts with the darker fields. This example has been preserved in excellent condition with its full pile it doesn't have fringes.

The History of the Tetex Rug..

Europeans love to have Persian and other oriental rugs in their homes or offices, which is why Persian rugs have always been in high demand in Europe.
During the 1920s and 1930s, Persian and Caucasian rugs were so popular and weavers from Persia and Caucasus could not keep up with the orders from Western merchants. So some of the merchants decided to manufacture the Persian and Caucasian design in Europe, some started in Germany which is called Tetex and some were made in Austria with another technique.

Condition: Very good condition, Selvedge slightly worn by time, some small unimportant stains in the saffron yellow background.
