Iranian Kurk* wool rug, cotton warp and weft, circa 1950. Very good condition. Strong and durable mat. Beautiful patina.
Very beautiful traditional medallion kachan, in mian farsh format, recalling the academic achievements of the Safavid dynasty (1501-1732). Under the reign of Shahs Abbas (1588-1629), schools were created to train Ustads (Master Weavers) who made carpet cartons. The designs were inspired by Persian tradition by reproducing hunting scenes, gardens, roses, trees, mosaic or bas-relief motifs (Persepolis).
