Chest Of Drawers Stamped Louis Delaitre – 18th Century

Artist: Estampillée Louis Delaitre Reçu Maître Le 19 Novembre 1738
Chest of drawers from the Regency period, strongly curved on the front and on the sides, stamped twice under the marble by the Parisian cabinetmaker Louis Delaitre. Louis Delaitre (whom was sometimes called ''de Laitre'' because of the special arrangement of his stamp) was made Master on November 19, 1738.
Until the 1750s, in his workshop on rue Saint-Nicolas, he produced furniture in the Louis XV style, even in the full Regency style. He also delivered furniture to several renowned merchants, including his colleague Migeon. A Louis XV chest of drawers with two drawers bears their two stamps.
Our chest of drawers is entirely veneered in four-leaf frieze of amaranth wood. To compose these curls, it is necessary to group four sheets of veneer taken from the same log of wood, respecting the order of flow so that the grain of the wood matches well.
It opens with four drawers in three rows (two drawers in the upper row).
The crosspieces are dark with wide brass grooves.
The pinched and protruding uprights are enhanced with gilded bronze falls and end with small arched feet raised with hooves.
Thick marble top in ''pink grey'' color and molded with a corbin beak.
The harmonious proportions, the decorative arrangement of the four-leaf frieze and the frames as well as the quality of the finely gilded and chiseled bronzes bear witness to the refinement of execution dear to Louis Delaitre, an illustrious Parisian cabinetmaker of the 18th century.
