Empire Clock With Rare Mythological Subject
Beautiful Empire period clock in gilded bronze resting on a sea green marble base, the base decorated with palmettes and a butterfly. The subject represented refers to the myth of Cupid and Psyche: Aphrodite, mother of Cupid, asks him to seduce Psyche of whom she is madly jealous. But Cupid wounds himself with one of his own golden arrows and falls madly in love with Psyche. This clock is in very good general condition, the original gilding very well preserved. The complete wire movement with its balance requires a revision (possible on request). small chips of enamel filled around the winding holes of the dial.
