"A Very Important Empire Clock, Composed Of A Sculpted Group In Patinated Brown And Gilt Bronze."
A very important Empire clock, composed of a sculpted group in dark brown and gilt patinated bronze, representing a seated female figure, dressed in classical style, in a melancholic or contemplative pose. The figure is finely modeled, with meticulous rendering of the drapery, featuring deep and naturalistic folds, attesting to a high-quality craftsmanship. The sculpture rests on a stylized rock incorporating the clock's circular dial. The dial features white enamel with black Roman numerals, framed by a gilt bronze bezel, with Breguet-style hands. The whole is mounted on a richly ornamented architectural base in gilt bronze, decorated with fluting, scrolls, acanthus leaves, and volutes, resting on volute feet. The contrast between the dark patina of the bronze figure and the bright gilt of the base enhances the piece's decorative presence. In its style and composition, this clock belongs to the tradition of 19th-century French clocks, inspired by Neoclassical/Romanticism, possibly Restoration or Empire periods. A bottle placed beside it allows one to appreciate its substantial dimensions, suitable for a mantelpiece or display cabinet. Very good overall condition. Gilding well preserved. Dial legible (functioning to be verified). H 65 x W 48 x D 15 cm
