Beautiful miniature of a man in a three-quarter bust from the late 18th century, signed Bornet. The powder-haired man wears a dark green jacket trimmed with yellow embroidery (perhaps an academician's costume?) a white scarf tied around his neck. Signature lower right. Claude Bornet was born in 1733 in Paris and died in Paris in 1803; painter, engraver and print dealer. Portraitist and miniaturist, he also illustrated with licentious engravings the works of the Marquis de Sade, he is exhibited in several museums. He married Charlotte de Noireterre, also a talented miniaturist. The miniature is protected by an original glass, two tiny visible scratches which are worn on the hair and the jacket. Oval interior brass frame and rectangular main frame with interior ogee in black lacquered boiled cardboard, a small lack at the top left corner. Dimensions at sight: 3.3 cm X 2.4 cm. Three golden brass palmettes adorn the frame, there were certainly four originally, one at the bottom has been moved to the center for more balance. Original well gilded brass suspension ring. The back has recently been covered with gummed paper to protect the work. Note: I am attaching in the photos a result of the sale of another miniature signed Bornet. Delivery: €10 for metropolitan France.
