Ceramic Tiles: The Wolf And The Three Rabbits

Two beautiful earthenware tiles, decorated with a fable, from the North or Northeast of France, dating from the early 19th century. A very pretty polychrome design depicting a wolf watching three rabbits in the distance. This design is certainly inspired by a poem by Prosper Wittersheim (1779-1838), a writer and printer in Alsace. The decoration is within an oval manganese medallion, itself surrounded by a frame of interlaced molding and embellished with rushes. Shades of yellow, green, and blue on a white background. Note: a charming and unusual subject. Shipping: €10 for mainland France. Other destinations: please contact me.
